Prof. Gloria S. Karuri
Professor Gloria S. Karuri was born in Jos and began her early education at ECWA Primary School, Jos, and Government Secondary School, Zonkwa, Kaduna State. She proceeded to Santa Ana Community College, California, USA, where she earned an Associate Degree in Pharmacy Technology (Major) and an Associate Degree in Business Administration (Minor).
She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Psychology, an M.Sc in Clinical Psychology, and a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from the University of Jos. She has completed several professional trainings across Africa and Europe, including Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, and Oxford, UK.
Prof. Karuri has served in several leadership and academic positions, including the Ministry of Health Plateau State, Daughters of Abraham Foundation Abuja, CRISA, and the University of Jos Department of Psychology where she has worked since 2000 and served as Head of Department from 2016–2021.
She is Chairperson of the Nigerian Psychological Association (Plateau State Chapter), Financial Secretary of the Community Intervention Network on Drugs (CIND), and a member of the Alcohol Policy Committee (ISSUP).
She is the Executive Director of Isana Center for Information and Substance Abuse Treatment (ICISAT), established in 2005 and certified as a trauma treatment center since 2014. ICISAT is devoted to the prevention, management, and treatment of substance abuse and related disorders.
Mkpang Ita (PhD)
Mkpang Ita (PhD) has sixteen years of experience treating people with mental illnesses as the Assistant Director of Clinical Psychology at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro in Abeokuta, Nigeria. His expertise in child and adolescent clinical psychology enables him to provide evidence-based therapies to children, adolescents, and families living with behavioural and emotional health challenges.
He obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ibadan, where he developed a strong commitment to advancing professional psychological care. His work has contributed to establishing Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro as a national centre of excellence in psychological treatment and mental health services.
Mkpang has earned recognition from the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists, where he serves as the Assistant General Secretary, and from the Nigerian Correctional Service, where he is a member of the Ogun State Parole Board.
Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Mkpang finds joy in uplifting people. In his free time, he enjoys cooking and watching movies—activities that help him relax and stay inspired.
